Do you connect songs with certain moments in your life? You hear them and it makes you remember something?

Music always has a funny way of making me react. While I’m at work, I often have headphones in since it helps me tune out the world and concentrate. The different genres can evoke certain emotions from me. Classical music? Makes me very mellow and sometimes even sad (but often in a good way). Certain pop songs make me bounce in my chair and I compose music videos in my head for them.

I know, I’m such an artist.

What are some of the songs that bring memories to you when you hear them? Here are some of mine:

• I will Survive (Cake cover): This one reminds me of break-ups. I listened to this version a lot after I broke up with my first boyfriend.
• Graduation (Vitamin C): Ironically this doesn’t remind me of graduating. Instead it reminds me of my old cat Opie. I listened to this song a lot when he went missing and how I had to move on past his death. 
• Barbie Girl (Aqua): Mack is going to kill me for putting this but Aqua, especially Barbie Girl, reminds me of him and our first date. He had Aqua playing in his car when he picked me up and let’s just say I set it as his ringer a few dates later.
• Ashita ga aru (There is always tomorrow) (Re: japan version): Not really surprising by this reminds me of my time living in Japan. More specifically it reminds me of when I went to China with my Japanese homeroom since I had to learn how to sing this song.
• You’re Beautiful (James Blunt): Babysitting/nannying my nephew. I used to turn on music videos in the morning and just let the songs be background noise while I hung out with my four-month old baby nephew (the smell of formula suddenly fills my nostrils at the memory).
• Everytime (Britney Spears): Reminds me of our exchange student Takako since the only way I got her to watch this video was telling her how it ends.
• Canon in D (Pachelbel): Hands down my favorite classical song and it reminds me of graduation. I set this as my demo reel music when I graduated in June thus in listening to it on repeat it is not surprising that me graduating is associated with it.
