In June, Mack and I had packed our belongings for the second time since we started dating to move to a new place. On Halloween in 2007, we had moved into an apartment together which in itself wasn’t that bad, we were just lazy about it and procrastinated about the move, so it was a last minute dash. That, coupled with Phoenix is still really hot at the end of October, we were miserable and promised ourselves we’d be better about it the next time we moved.
In May, the company that Mack did an internship with here in Florida offered him an exciting job opportunity and, being the loving and supportive girlfriend that I am, said shoot, Florida could be a lot of fun! Mack’s Mom came down to Phoenix to help us pack for the cross country move and we were pumped.
Until it turned into the move from hell.
To save the long-winded rant about that, let’s just say that by the end of all of that when it came to unpacking we were heavily discouraged with everything. I was telecommuting to my job in Phoenix and Mack was starting his new job, which left us exhausted to get everything situated. It’s not like we didn’t unpack or organize anything, we were just really slow about it. Then September rolled around and I got a new job outside of the apartment.
Now it’s December and we’re still in a semi-moved in state. I know, I know, we’ve been living here five months! What kind of lazy slobs are you? Well, we’re busy lazy slobs, thanks. It may be hard to believe, but both of us can be neat freaks so this constant limbo has been driving us bonkers for the past five months.
After I went up to Seattle to visit my family for Thanksgiving, Mack decided to visit his family over a long weekend before Christmas since I’m sure that flying and traveling during Christmas is as much fun as getting your wisdom teeth pulled… without novocaine. For my part, to keep myself entertained while he was gone I decided to clean our apartment (since I’m a masochist).
Let it be known that Mack and I have a lot of clothes. I had not realized how many clothes we had, especially since it had been piling up, until I had to put away the about twenty-loads of laundry. The clothing was both waiting to be put away and got washed the past few days. That and all the general tidying work has kept me busy the past two days with more needing to be done.
But for tonight: stick a fork in me. I’m done.
