No matter how much I wish it were not the case, at least one of my friends, every April Fool’s Day, jokes that they are pregnant. Then, they do not appreciate is my typically sarcastic and not generally supportive answer. For one, I know what day it is, thus know to trust no one (except Jon who got me pretty good this year) and hello? again, April Fool’s Day. I had a friend who three years ago joked on April Fool’s Day that she was pregnant and she fooled a lot of people…
And promptly ended up pregnant 2 months later. Karma is a bitch, isn’t it?
It got really old this year when, on twitter, I’d see a bunch of people writing “tehe! I just fooled my boyfriend/husband by making him think I was pregnant? Aren’t I witty?” or something equally lame. Sure, last year I did the joke on like two people since it was the first time I was in a long-term relationship around the time. The two people I pulled it on? The friend who ended up pregnant and my brother since I was really hoping to get punched in the face.
Good thing we were separated by four states, that’s all I got to say. Thinking back, though, I’m pretty sure he sucker punched my arm the next time he saw me.
What is it with my gender that automatically defaults to this age-old, lame joke? It’s not funny joking that you are pregnant. I’m sorry, but it’s not exactly a light subject that you should be laughing about and then getting offended when your significant other is a) less then supportive or b) considers dumping your lying ass. I don’t know, I have very different views on relationships and the unexpected pregnancy than a lot of my female peers so I guess I shouldn’t touch too much into that subject but…
Ladies, how would you feel if he did April Fool’s joke of “Hey baby, I got a vasectomy?” I think I’d punch someone in the head if they said that to me, but then again, I don’t joke about pregnancy with my boyfriend. Sure, I’ll do it with my friends since I love psyching them out and making them take pregnancy tests.
And no, this isn’t some random act of bitchiness. My friends usually start the teasing by saying I’m probably pregnant since I am feeling sick to my stomach. Hate to break it to you guys but you look at me funny and I get sick to my stomach. My body is just that wonderful.
If you want to get ideas for next year you should check out the wikipedia page on April Fool’s Day which led to an amusing read on fool’s day for me. And also a favorite from the BBC last year.
Ladies, just do us all a favor and try some original material next year. Use your mind and don’t fall back on the easy way out of pregnancy since it is no joke.

Yah, except that the joke I got you with backfired with my family. I earned myself a 2 page, 1 paragraph rant about how I should go back to the church and go on my mission.
I can’t go on a mission, I am pregnant…
Ha, serves you right for pranking what? Last I heard 5 people with that joke.
And I so dare you to try the “I can’t go on a mission I’m pregnant” with your family. It would raise all sorts of interesting questions, I am sure.
