Been so busy with life and taking photos I haven’t really had a chance to sit down and breathe lately. Last night I finally had the chance, though, so went about processing the 7000 some odd photos I’ve taken in the past 14-months.

I know I’m two days late in posting these. Trust me, I know. I went down to San Francisco to visit a friend for her birthday this weekend and got back late Sunday night. Excuses, excuses, I KNOW!, but I got lots of photos and man I really need to post some of the bazillion photos I have sitting in Lightroom right now (as well as sharing their many stories!).

365 Challenge

At the beginning of the new year I decided to once again try the 365 day challenge. Thus far I’ve been successful (hurrah to 16 days strong!) and thought I’d be a good idea to post on Sundays the photos that from the week past (for those of you who don’t to check out my fancy blog dedicated to it).

Since, however, I’m just starting this new tradition I’m going to show you all I’ve done up to this point thus far… by linking them TO the photo blog. Am I pimping the link enough? I think not.

To Process or Procrastinate?

For some reason the month of November escaped me. One minute it was the beginning of November full of hope and endless possibilities then BAM! Shit explosion of all this stuff happening at once!

Figuratively speaking with the shit explosion.

Looking back I can’t even really tell you all that happened other then work, family visiting, and the death of a family friends grandson. Yesterday I attended his funeral to pay my final respects and the enormity of it all didn’t really hit me (although I cried a few times at the funeral) until last night when I sobbed for the loss of life and the unknown of it all.

During November and even into December I find myself still in this weird funk where I can’t focus when I get home on anything but being a sloth. Last weekend I sat myself down and went through a few of my photographs to make some prints to a) fill one of our frames and b) bring some to work to bring some life to my cubicle. Now I face the daunting task of needing to pick out more of my photographs to print out by Saturday and I’m looking at the 7,000 ish photographs I’ve taken since January with just my Nikon and going through them and processing ones I might not have processed if they’re good enough.

Gulp.

Notice I didn’t include any pre-2010 photographs that were taken with my other cameras? I think that would simply make my head explode.

How do you bring yourself to focus and get stuff done? Especially as the holiday season is upon us and working on personal projects is considered so selfish?

A Few Shots from the Snowpocalypse

In case you missed it the northwest was dumped on with lots of snow, ice, wind, and all sorts of winter joy this holiday season. I for one am a big fan of snow… as long as I don’t have to go anywhere. Luckily I work for a very understanding company that realizes I don’t want to die trying to go into work (since on a good day my commute is usually 45-50 minutes) and really? what use would I be to anyone dead anyway?

Sunday it started snowing and it wasn’t until that night that it (finally!) really started to stick. By Monday morning the northwest was enveloped in a winter wonder land which caused headaches come nighttime and mass chaos all around.

Again, have I mentioned I love the company I work at?

I’ve been told this needs a caption and all I can think of is what I posted on facebook: “Scholar Kitty is perturbed by your illogical argument.” I challenge you to think of something better! I dare you!

A Journey to Forks, WA aka I Have No Shame

Twilight and I have always had a complex relationship. On one hand I’m ashamed to admit that I have a soft spot for the series. I read the first three books during my first Christmas down in Phoenix while Mack’s family was in town. It was an excellent de-stressing read after a particularly hard quarter at school that didn’t require much in the way of brain power. The writing was like a bad fanfiction and trashy in a sort of “clean wholesome” (read: no sex) way and, being a lover of trashy romance novels, it amused me. I read the series before it got “big” and was shoved down your throat everywhere you go.

I know the writing is bad and the relationships in the books are unhealthy at best but you know what? It’s good escape literature that you love to hate. I also hate to love it.

What’d I tell you? It’s complex.

Last week Hayley text me and asked me if I would want to take an epic journey to Forks, WA next (now this) week. “Heck yes!” I replied. “It’s not like I have a job or anything going on in my life!”

That’s my typical response now: “It’s not like I have a job or anything happening.”

Wednesday morning came and Hayley showed up at the ridiculous hour of 7:30am. Doesn’t she know I have no job thus like to sleep till noon? (I’m half-joking!). She patiently waited until after I had a phone interview for a (potential) contract job and then we loaded up into the car and hit the road.

Oh boy can you sense the excitement?

After two hours of driving through the Olympic Peninsula and a whole lot of nature we hit Port Angeles and knew we were getting close.

And if Super 8 wasn’t helpful enough there was always road signs:

About 45 miles outside of Forks we hit some epic road construction by a lake that had us sitting there for 20 minutes. It was all fine and dandy since hey, at least we had a view! We managed to eventually escape that joy and within another fifty minutes we hit Tourist Spot #1:

I won’t tell you how many tourists were gathered around to pose by the sign but at this point I started loudly proclaiming “I have no shame” and “I embarrass myself.”

Driving through Forks itself was very… interesting since obviously their sole purpose is now catering to the rabid fans who descend in masses to be somehow apart of the series.

And I’m not even talking to the specific areas of town specifically catered to objects/places in the books.

Yes, that includes the Visiter Center.

This was just awesome: capitalizing on the madness:

“Twilight firewood”. Yes. I’m sure it’s wood from trees the Cullens broke while playing vampire baseball. I had to give whoever did that props since I’m sure someone will buy it since it’s from Forks and has Twilight written above it.

Overall I have to say that I had a good time but it was kind of sad how tourist trap the town now is. Like, you couldn’t walk down the main drag without Twilight being shoved into your face… especially as you go by the store Dazzled which, of course, sells only Twilight related apparel.

If you’re a hardcore fan who wants to go “experience” Twilight I’d say make the trip to Forks, WA since they cater to making the fans happy. I enjoyed my time with Hayley (despite a few times of refusing to get out of the car to take pictures due to embarrassment). Now when I tell people that I live in Washington state I can tell them yes, I have been to Forks, WA, and hopefully watch them explode in a dazzling display of diamonds.

Or whatever those vampires do.
