What font did you use for the "AB" in your last two examples?

Great examples of good and bad watermarks. I tend to think that subtle text watermarks are the best way to go. You may want to check out http://www.watermarquee.com to easily add watermarks to your photos.

Bonnie -

I don't think my information is misguided, per say. If there is a will there is a way to steal photography. Mine is more geared towards sites like flickr where I'm seeing these ugly watermarks. Through creative cropping or even screen capturing methods I've been able to "steal" photographs (not for nefarious purposes but just to save on my computer just to look at since I like them). On a proofing website they shouldn't be stealing the photographs period and could be sued. You're the copyright holder of the images (unless you sign away them through a contract which I'm doubtful you do). Even printing websites say that they're supposed to be the copyright holders i.e. the photographer. I've had to watermark photos since even my family members were posting my photography on facebook without saying I did the photographs. I know there is a lot of dishonest people but the point I was trying to get across is really put some thought into it and tacky watermarks really detract from photographs.

I really like the idea of this article - I find watermarks pretty distracting. However, having had my photography stolen lately (a client took the picture off my proofing website and removed my watermark to print Christmas cards), I can tell you that your information is a bit misguided. It is remarkable easy as all get out to remove every single watermark you deemed "acceptable". Ironically, the first font and the one with the flowers in the logo are the ones doing the most protection. Multiple articles by people who know how to remove watermarks claim the best ones (which provide the most protection) are the ones that span the entire photo, have at least 50% opacity and a design logo that can not be duplicated. I wish I could provide clients with an view of their photos where no distracting watermarks exist - unfortunately, dishonest people make that impossible.

I love this post. Although you're referencing your expereiences in Phoenix and Florida, it still sounds like a lot that happens here in Chicago. To everyone, a green light means go and yellow light means go faster. When you get to the intersection if the light is red, screw it. You're already 100ft from the line, just go through it. <.<

Old people are the worst with this. My own grandfather, included, runs red lights, hits parked cars and drives away, doesnt stop at stop signs, and merges without looking.

My favorite thing people do is when in a double turn lane, the person in the lane closest to the median murges into the second turning lane after completing the turn. Right into the person next to them. I've been the victim so many times.

My driving isn't the best, but I can prove my good record with no speeding tickets... On my current car of 2 years. Prior, that's another story... And I still haven't gotten caught.

Cops, however, are very strict when it comes to traffic laws. If they see something happen that is potentially hazardous, they pull you over. Tailgaiting, speeding, cutting people off, etc. And ANY violation is accompanied by a $300+ ticket, court costs, and driving school.

Red light cameras are all over the place. Unlike Florida, Illinois doesn't see an issue with them. I received a red light ticket in the mail for turning on red. Apparently, I was moving too fast. Watching the video, I never came to a complete stop, but I wasn't flying through the intersection, either.

On the highway its a completely different ballgame. I-355, I-290, and I-90 are all roads that contain drivers of the aggrivated tailgating kind. Also contains opposite drivers. For example, someone will go 90 (speed limits are 55) in the 'slow' lane and get pissed off if someone is in front of them. They wont go around. They just sit there and honk.

As for the opposite drivers, they sit in the 'faster' lanes and drive at speeds of up to 45 mph! Even then they ride their brakes like as if they're about to collide with a pie truck, a clown car, and a seltzer water delivery van. What a show that would be.
